"This was truly the most fantastic trip we have done as a family in many years. Perfect timing, good variation of excursions and the whole trip run like clockwork. Well done! "

Tucked away at the northern-most reaches of Myanmar is Mount Hkakaborazi which, a height of 5881 meters, is the country’s (and Southeast Asia’s) highest peak. Puta-O is the nearest major town, and that is a 3-week trek away. Travellers need to walk through some very dense and challenging ...
The landscape surrounding Hpa-an is magical, especially when you arrive by boat over the Thanlwin River. As you approach the town you’ll see the most impressive limestone mountains jutting up out of the green fields. Much like the Ninh Binh region in Vietnam, or a mini version …
You will be passing ancient temples, farmers working on their fields, century’s old royal paths, impressive banyan trees and a charming weaving village...
Travelling around Myanmar is not just about exploring new places, but also about the different foods, flavours and dishes that make a place unique. Travellers can learn so much about a culture from the dishes that people prepare and eat – either everyday breakfast dishes like Mohingha, or specialties like Ohn-no Kaukswe (coconut noodles).
In 1996, I was working in tourism in Thailand when I came to Myanmar for a 1 month holiday. I was enchanted by Myanmar and decided I wanted to spend more time here. Back in 1996, there wasn’t any internet or functioning ATMs in Myanmar
YANGON, 23 December 2020: Longtime Yangon resident and travel specialist, Edwin Briels, has been elected to the Myanmar Tourism Marketing committee for a second two-year term.
The first week of the new year is usually a time of reflection, and an opportunity for renewal. 2020 wasn't a great year for those working in the tourism industry and, like many colleagues,
For obvious reasons very few tourists have made it to Mrauk-U in the last few years, and Exploration Travel did an amazing job getting us there and back smoothly and safely. Providing us with a brilliant local guide, a great driver, and accommodation in the best hotel in the town. While its currently a tricky part of the world to visit, its really worth the effort if you can. Stunning temples, fascinating history, and an eye opening view of this region. Interacting with the towns people, meeting local weavers and artisans, and spending a day and a half wandering the ruins of what was one once called "the Venice of the East". I learned a lot and am grateful for the time we managed to spend there.

Exploration Travel provided an intensely interesting, flexible and safe experience to Bagan, Yenangyaung and Salay in this precarious time. The guides were experts and catered to my needs, providing invaluable insights into the local culture and history. I toured pagodas, went fishing on the Irrawaddy, took a bike trip to a monastery, talked with lots of locals, stayed one night in a lovely guesthouse (Le Thar Gone) that was attached to a private high school, and then two nights in an idyllic setting at Salay River View Inn. As a solo female traveler, I felt very cared for and protected as all the logistics were smoothly tended to. One highlight of my trip was the wonderful young women at Salay House who took me on tours around the town, allowing me access to places I wouldn't have known were there. Like inside of a lacquered Buddha! I would book another trip with Exploration Travel without hesitation.

Exploration Travel arranged an amazing, customised tour for us to Shan State. And every part of it was perfectly selected, organised and delivered. The guides and drivers were all excellent, and the hotels, restaurants, and events organised were all brilliant and exactly what we had hoped for. Everything going smoothly and without a hitch. Having such long running experience in the country, it was the personal touch we appreciated most, organising visits to otherwise closed attractions and getting a guide to kayak and cycle with us to local villages that we appreciated the most. As we never would have been able to do these things ourselves as independent travelers. We cannot recommend them enough and will definitely use them for our next trip here.

The suggestions from Exploration Travel Myanmar came fast and were completely in line with the outline of our expectations we sent them in advance. They made all bookings and followed up regularly. We will for sure use them again.

The outdoor tour is one of the best activity to do in Yangon and the crew think of every details to make it a wonderful day. We did biking, cruised on the river on a local fisherman's boat, more biking, had a tasty Myanmar lunch in a secluded private garden on the river bank, took a walk in a beautiful private woods crossing small lakes on tiny wooden bridge. It was a painting like setting. My best day in Yangon so far. Tour is highly recommended.
