” MORE BACKGROUND ON THE COUNTRY – WHAT TO READ & WATCH “
Edwin Briels
Managing Director Exploration Travel

It’s been a while since you heard from us. Our main excuse: we’ve been growing and wanted to fully focus on clients on the ground and give them all the attention they deserve. It’s all about the experience of your clients and I must say that we have had some fantastic feedback….

The high season is just around the corner, and we are busy preparing magical moments for your clients in the coming months. We were also able to do what we probably love the most, exploring some hidden gems, this time around the mountains of Chiang Rai, Chiang Khong and Phrae. We discovered new places to include in your client’s itinerary (and maybe a few old places to take out…

July 2025 Newsletter
A lot is happening around the world, unfortunately not always in a positive way. We hear agents telling us that some clients are hesitant to book long in advance, yet some of them do go for long-haul travel anyway, last minute. In this newsletter, hotel promotions that might help you convince clients to book a trip to Thailand now, updates on the situation in the region, a fantastic new trip focussing on culture and nature in the south of Thailand and some updates on Myanmar.

Unfortunately, Myanmar is big in the worldwide news again…………… as a major earth quake hit Mandalay, Inle Lake and other parts or Myanmar and Thailand. The damage in Thailand is limited, the tourism infrastructure is untouched and life continues as it is. One office tower under construction collapsed with many workers from Thailand, Myanmar and Cambodia trapped under the rubble.

As the hot season is coming to an end in Thailand, we’re preparing for the upcoming high season in July and August and then again from October till February. Thailand is truly a whole year-round destination, and each period has its own advantages. The European summer months July and August are ideal for families to explore the Thai countryside including Sukhothai and Nan; it’s quiet, not too hot, has stunningly green paddy fields and no, it’s not raining every day!

September 2024 Newsletter
Thai food has many flavours, which made it popular all around the world. Yet, also in Thailand, there are good, as well as mediocre or even bad food experiences. To be honest, at our Exploration Travel office, we sometimes wonder how far from the original version of a Thai dish tourist restaurants can adapt the explosion of flavours. In tourist areas, the well-intended adaption to western palate, has squeezed even the last bit of spiciness, sourness, saltiness or sweetness (the traditional combination of local flavours) out of some Thai dishes.

Exploration Travel’s Managing Director, Edwin Briels recently arrived back from Further East in Bali and he had so many excellent meetings with existing and new agents, that he is still busy sending personal follow-ups. Meanwhile our operations and customer service are in the midst of the high season and are creating smiles on the faces of visitors, as well as all our newly selected story tellers, guides and local suppliers in communities around Thailand.
